The town, situated on the banks of the Kootenai River, is known for its natural beauty, abundant recreational opportunities and the friendliness of its residents. Northern Idaho in general and Bonner’s Ferry, in particular, is known for its welcoming, supportive attitude toward non-traditional education and is home to many therapeutic residential schools.
